Sunday 25th
November saw the second of four age group superstars meets. This was held at the
grove with sprints and distance swimming the order of the day. City of
Belfast had its biggest entry to date for with 11 members
of the junior squad and 1 youth squad member competing on the day.
The first session consisted of 50m butterfly and 400m freestyle. The 400
freestyle was a very new event for most of the swimmers and everyone swam
excellent with some personnel bests of more than 60 seconds and 5 swimmers doing
the event for the first time!
The second session we had the 50m backstroke and 200 individual medally. Both
events went fantastically well with nearly every swim resulting in a personnel
best.
Technically the swimmers have never looked better this season and that
improvement is showing with a total of 33 personnel bests from 39 swims which
more than any coach can hope for.
There is still plenty of work still to do and all the swimmers know what aspects
of their events they need to concentrate on in training. The next age group meet
should see nearly the entire junior squad competing after Christmas so if you
haven’t had your chance yet, you soon will, just keep up the training.
For this meet one swimmer stood out above everyone, she has really come out her
shell recently and after some anxiety before the 400m freestyle but came through
with a 47 second personnel best. Her final tally was 4 swims, 4 personnel bests
and 4 gold medals……..age superstars 2 swimmer of the meet is Emma Henderson!
