From Friday to Sunday evening our swimmers have been competing in the Ulster Open, held in Bangor leisure centre. We may have fielded a small team, but they packed a big punch. Alison Todd led the way, swimming in eleven events (including two relays). In all nine individual events, Alison not only made the final, but won a medal in each one. Her personal tally came to one Gold (100m fly), five silver and three bronze medals. A fantastic effort. Emily Heyburn competed in seven events and picked up a silver (50m fly) and a bronze medal (100m fly). The 400m freestyle relay team and the 400m individual medley teams (Alison, Emily, Seana and Jenny) both won silver medals. This is fantastic when you consider that Seana is fourteen and Jenny is only twelve. David Stronge competed with Ben Alford in the mens events with David winning two bronze medals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events. There were a total of 21 pb's and two club records to go alongside the medals. The team also welcomed Kaitlyn McCaw, home for Christmas from Australia, who swam in nine events. When Kaitlyn qualified for the 100m fly, the Club had four finalists in this event (Alison, Emily, Seana and Kaitlyn). Kaitlyn, we wish you and your family a prosperous New Year and a safe trip home. Congratulations to all of the above for their achievements and continuing to set a great example for all the rest of the Club. |
