Larne swimming club provided the first opposition of the season for our teletots swimmers. Although we are short on numbers in certain age groups, 22 swimmers swam their socks off and provided some fantastic races, giving the touch judges some very tough decisions. With so few numbers only our group ’D’ relay was able to count towards the points total, however with more boys than girls the group ‘A’ relay showed some great potential almost winning the opening relay as did the group ‘B’ team again made up of 3 and 1 this time more girls than boys. Our group ‘C’ all girls 1999’s relay showed their class taking that relay by a margin. Although we could not compete with Larne, in certain age groups we really took the competition to them. The group A boys never put a foot wrong in the whole gala taking a one, two finish in every race, which include some big victories and considering only two of the five boys are 2001 this shows real promise for the future of the club. The group ‘C’ girls also showed their speed taking first and second in three out four events and taking both relays against mixed teams. Not only did we compete in lots of races the swimmers did loads of personnel bests, nearly every swim by a City of Belfast swimmer was a PB. COB got 46 PB’s from 57 swims, 81% of swims were PB’s, a total of 89.78 seconds worth of personnel bests from 22 swimmers which is fantastic and especially good considering many previous PB times were set less than 6 weeks ago at the Christmas time trial. This is superb progress over the winter period and everyone should feel very proud of what they have achieved I know I certainly am. The meet finished in our trademark fashion, with every swimmer remaining on the poolside to support the team right up to the final relay. Although we were by far the smaller team on the night we were easily the loudest and long may that continue for the rest of the season. My thanks to all the parents who came down to do officiating duties, hopefully it will be a different set of parents on the next occasion. If everyone chips in with at least two galas then no one has to do every gala (I hope). Finally a massive thank to Suzanne McDowell who’s company Mourne Granite is sponsoring the teletots team this season and has meant that all the swimmers on the squad will get or did get a teletots t-shirt this season. I think everyone will agree the team looked really well in their new strip. We will get a team photo at our first home teletots meet in March. OUR NEXT TELETOTS IS AWAY TO PORTADOWN ON THE 20TH FEBRUARY SEE YOU ALL THERE.DS 17th Januar |
