Teletots v Newry and Mourne Report
18/3/2010
We arrived by car, train and bus to take on Newry and Mourne ASC in their own pool. We had a smaller squad than usual with 21 City of Belfast swimmers turning out. N and M came down from Division 1 last season so we knew they would provide very tough opposition. The medley relays kicked off the gala and COB won their first relay of the teletots season with the group ‘B’ team of James Crossey, Erin Blundell, Sarah McCracken and Fred Pepper coming away with a well deserved win. The Backstroke events were next with swimmers taking away wins and many PB’s were set. In the Breaststroke events COB really showed their technical improvement coming away the biggest points total of the night in these events. Butterfly was next with a number of new swimmers taking part in teletots for the first time this season and indeed this was their first gala. Freestyle finished the individual events with some swimmers setting outstanding personal bests and really fast times. Finishing the meet off well were the freestyle relays again our group ‘B’ team came away with a win providing a fantastic finish that had everyone on their feet. As always the swimmers stayed around to support the team right up to final relay. This was our third gala of the season and in everyone we have continued to improve in our performances and the results we are achieving. First meet v Larne we lost by 124, second meet last week v Lurgan we lost by 94, this recent gala we lost by 67 points which is a fantastic improvement. The swimmers also set 32 personal best times and 8 new times were set (results in the press section of the website). This is brilliant considering we only had our last teletots 8 days previous so well done to all who managed the trip and showed up to support their club and swim so well. Thanks to all the parents who officiated and helped out with the running of the gala which is always appreciated. Our next teletots will be against Cookstown at home in Anderstown in April keep an eye on the notice board for details and team selection. DS 14th March.
