Earth Day Gala Report
28/4/2010
Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed at the Earth Gala. From looking through the list of results from Swim Ulster, the achievements were once again outstanding. I know that the coaches will be producing a full report in due course, but can I say how impressed I was with the attitude of all our swimmers. There were a lot of excellent swims from all our competitors. These were Sofie Hunter, Erin Blundell, Seana Harley-Moyes, Hannah Beattie, Christina McDowell, Carla Morelli, Sarah McCracken, Ellen O’Neill, Morgan Berryman, Robert McDowell and James McDowell.
Looking down the main list from Swim Ulster, everyone produced either a personal best or a medal which again demonstrates the enthusiasm of our swimmers and the dedication and ability of our coaches. Morgan Berryman led the way with six golds and one silver in seven events across the weekend. As a note to all our swimmers, Morgan also drank at least five litres of liquids per day across the weekend showing that proper preparation includes making sure that nutrition is all important. Remarkable swims also came from Robert McDowell in the 400m IM with a 114 second pb; Hannah Beattie in her 400m freestyle with a 22 second pb; Sofie Hunter in the 100m back with a 17 second pb; and Ellen O’Neill with an 11 second pb in the 200m breaststroke. This list is not exhaustive so I apologise for not including everyone. The Swim Ulster results sheet I have received is too big at the moment to download on to the site so one will be uploaded when the formal coach's report is ready. Once again, congratulations to all our swimmers on their performances and attitude throughout this gala. Roll on the Ulster Age Group Championships and keep training hard.
